Decker had a fairly normal childhood, growing up on Deep space 12 where his mother was CO, while his father was away for extended periods of time on assignment captaining the USS Chekov, for up to months at a time he always kept in contact and returned for spatial occasions. After completing school he enrolled in the academy at 18. His world was turned upside down when 4 years later his parents were killed fighting the Borg at Wolf 359. He dropped out of the academy and spent the better part of a year in the family home in Sussex. In 2369 at the age of 24 Decker re-enrolled with the archenemy and graduated with honours a year later, due to his ability and enthusiasm (and the need for officers during the Dominion War) Decker was fast tracked into command, in 2373 he was offered the position of XO on the USS Hyperion, and field promoted to CO when the ships current captain was killed during a battle with the Breen. After the end of hostilities in 2376 Decker (then Commander) was given command of the Nightingale Medical station where he became friends with Marine Sam McKenzie who was a long term patent undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the war. At the end of 2380 Decker was recalled to earth and promoted to Captain. On stardate 238104.30 Decker was given command of the USS Ithaca
Joined Starfleet at age 62, where he was doing well until a training accident where a fellow cadet was killed, after that he underwent a physiological evaluation where he was deemed unfit for command as he was too unwell to make "The difficult decisions" that were necessary.
He was assigned to the Ithaca as a tempering influence for Decker's youthful enthusiasm.
She was sent to school on earth where she was picked on because of her Martian heritage. After finishing school she went state into Starfleet where she specialized in tactical planning and security systems. The Breen destroyed her first Assignment the USS Galahad during an ambush, and her piers implicated her in the destruction of the ship. Other noticeable assignments include the USS Hopkirk where she met then Lt John Decker and stared dating him; he inspired her to work up through the ranks.

The illegitimate daughter of Curzon Dax her fathers identity is a closely guarded secret. Her mother wanted her to follow in the family tradition of going into teaching (NB she is descended from the tyrannical J. A. Fadden). Going against her mother's wishes she went into medicine and graduated med school in the top 25% and was drafted by Starfleet medical. The Ithaca is her first assignment out of Starfleet HQ; Space travel makes her nervous.
Alex has spent most of his life on board ship, but has adopted the Jamaican culture. With his father being an engineer he grew up around engineering. Jermyn went into the academy at 19 and entered the engineering corps shortly after that. But finding it too restrictive, he transferred to ship duty. Notable assignments are; the USS Alexandretta, when the ships hull was infused with particles of an unknown material, he saved the ship by flushing the hull with low charge warp plasma. He was chosen for the Ithaca, over Robin Lefler, due to his ability to improvise and think on his feet.
Both parents live and work on Risa, Rachel had to work her way out, and find her own way into Starfleet, her determination caught the attention of one of the instructors when she took the entrance exam for Starfleet primary training for the fifth time, and she was provisionally let in. She has never looked back, what she lacked in knowledge she made up for in tenacity and enthusiasm, after finishing in the top 25% of her class she was assigned directly to the Ithaca.

With his father being the Fleet commander Michel was put under pressure to go into the Security forces. His father never approved of him going into the sciences, and constantly challenging him, just to prove that he can't meet the standard that his father has laid down.
After graduating he took an assignment on a deep space observation post, just to get away from his father, due to this he has learnt self-reliance. Upon his return he was put onto the Ithaca, where he was promoted after the previous two ops officers died.

Sam spent moist of her child hood on Star Base 20 with her mother. Upon trying to join the academy she was rejected five times due to not meeting the minimum height requirement, finally she was let in when her father called in a favour. Students and teachers alike singled her out because of her height, or why she was let in. She pushed herself hard and graduated in the top 40% of her class at the age of 21. Noteworthy assignments are the USS Bradford, where a photon grenade injured her during a daring manoeuvre that saved her tactical team, she was sent to Nightingale medical station for recovery where she met John Decker. She was assigned to the Ithaca as Sergeant and XO of the marines but was promoted after her CO Major Handgun was killed.
